The Biblical Faith \u2013 Pistis<\/em><\/h4>\n

The New Testament word for faith is the Greek term pistis<\/strong><\/em> (\u03c0\u03af\u03c3\u03c4\u03b9\u03c2), which means trust, confidence,<\/em> or reliance<\/em>. It carries the idea of resting one\u2019s entire confidence on the reliability of another.<\/p>\n

In Scripture, faith refers specifically to placing our full trust in God\u2014believing what He says, depending on who He is, and responding in obedience<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Faith, therefore, is not passive belief but active reliance. The writer of Hebrews defines it this way:<\/p>\n

\u201cNow faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.\u201d<\/em><\/strong> (Hebrews 11:1)<\/em><\/p>\n

The word substance<\/em> literally means a foundation or assurance. Faith is standing firmly upon God Himself\u2014trusting His Word and character\u2014even when our eyes cannot yet see His promises fulfilled.<\/p>\n

Faith Comes by Hearing the Word of God<\/h4>\n

The Bible also reveals how faith begins. It does not originate from human reasoning, emotion, or imagination\u2014it comes only through the Word of God.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.\u201d<\/em><\/strong> (Romans 10:17)<\/em><\/p>\n

True faith is born when a person hears what God says and responds by trusting Him. It is not rooted in how we feel or what we think about God, but in what God has declared about Himself<\/strong> in Scripture. Faith rests upon divine revelation\u2014on God\u2019s self-disclosure of His character, promises, and works.<\/p>\n

Abraham\u2019s life perfectly illustrates this truth. When God spoke to him, Abraham believed what God had said. The Bible records,<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.\u201d<\/em><\/strong> (Genesis 15:6)<\/em><\/p>\n

Abraham did not rely on his own understanding or circumstance; he simply trusted what God had spoken. That is the essence of true faith.<\/p>\n

Today, while God generally no longer speaks audibly to people as He did in ancient times, He still speaks through His written Word\u2014the Bible.<\/strong> Therefore, our faith must be based on what God has revealed in Scripture, not on what others say, teach, or feel. If we want our faith to grow, we must read, hear, and meditate on the Word of God<\/strong>, for it is through His Word that faith is born and sustained.<\/p>\n

Faith Anchored in God\u2019s Character<\/h4>\n

Because faith depends on God\u2019s Word, it also depends on His unchanging character. God cannot lie; His Word cannot fail.<\/p>\n

\u201cGod is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?\u201d<\/em><\/strong> (Numbers 23:19)<\/em><\/p>\n

Our faith is only as strong as the One in whom it is placed. When we trust God, we trust the integrity of His nature. Therefore, biblical faith is not \u201cbelieving hard enough\u201d to make something happen\u2014it is believing God because He has spoken and because He is faithful to His Word.<\/p>\n

The Lord Jesus also taught that even a very small faith\u2014when placed in the right Person\u2014can move mountains.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, \u2018Move from here to there,\u2019 and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.\u201d<\/em><\/strong> (Matthew 17:20)<\/em><\/p>\n

The size of your faith is not what makes the difference; it is the object<\/strong> of your faith. A little faith in a great God is far greater than great faith in yourself or anything else.<\/strong> What matters is not how much faith you have\u2014but where you put that faith.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Faith opens the heart to God\u2019s truth, rests upon His unchanging nature, and clings to the cross of Christ as the only hope of redemption. Faith is not merely believing in God\u2014it is trusting Him completely. It is how we begin with Him, how we walk with Him, and how we will finish with Him.<\/strong><\/p>\n
