What Is the Difference Between the Baptism of John and the Baptism of Jesus?<\/h4>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"235\" data-end=\"424\">The baptism practiced by John the Baptist was a <strong data-start=\"283\" data-end=\"308\">baptism of repentance<\/strong>, preparing people for the coming Messiah. It symbolized a turning away from sin but did not confer the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"426\" data-end=\"710\">In contrast, the baptism instituted by the Lord Jesus is associated with the reception of the Holy Spirit after a person believes. But after the Lord Jesus appeared and proclaimed the Good News, the full response now involves <strong data-start=\"1577\" data-end=\"1645\">both repentance and personal faith and surrender to Jesus Christ<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1648\" data-end=\"1804\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1648\" data-end=\"1804\">This is why John the Baptist directed his disciples to leave him and follow Jesus\u2014because with Jesus, the redemptive plan of God was coming into completion.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1806\" data-end=\"2019\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1808\" data-end=\"2019\">\u00a0<strong><em data-start=\"1827\" data-end=\"2019\">&#8220;Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples.
