So Jesus\u2019 call to repentance was a call to <strong data-start=\"3614\" data-end=\"3631\">return to God<\/strong>\u2014to stop going through the motions and to truly acknowledge the Lord as King.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3710\" data-end=\"3751\">He echoed the same in Luke 13:3 and 13:5:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3753\" data-end=\"3804\"><strong><em data-start=\"3753\" data-end=\"3804\">\u201cUnless you repent you will all likewise perish.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3806\" data-end=\"3934\">It\u2019s not that they were doing more wicked things than others; it\u2019s that they, too, were separated from God and needed to return.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3806\" data-end=\"3934\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<h4 data-start=\"3941\" data-end=\"3994\">Repentance Is Not a Call to Self-Righteousness<\/h4>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3996\" data-end=\"4169\">This is where so many modern messages go wrong. People hear, <em data-start=\"4057\" data-end=\"4094\">\u201cRepent of your sins and live a righteous life,\u201d<\/em> and they equate repentance with personal holiness. But that is misleading.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4171\" data-end=\"4479\">If we could produce righteousness by our own efforts, there would be no need for the cross. Jesus did not die just to make bad people good\u2014He died to bring dead people to life. The gospel is not about self-improvement, it is about restoration to God. And <strong data-start=\"4426\" data-end=\"4478\">repentance is the first step of that restoration<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4171\" data-end=\"4479\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<h4 data-start=\"4486\" data-end=\"4547\">The Pharisees: Righteous by Behavior, But Far from God<\/h4>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4549\" data-end=\"4690\">In Jesus\u2019 day, no one outperformed the Pharisees in religious behavior. They fasted, tithed, prayed, avoided obvious sins\u2014and yet Jesus said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4692\" data-end=\"4854\"><em data-start=\"4692\" data-end=\"4836\">\u201cWoe to you\u2026 hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men\u2019s bones.\u201d<\/em> \u2014 <em data-start=\"4839\" data-end=\"4854\">Matthew 23:27<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4856\" data-end=\"5067\">Why? Because although they looked righteous, <strong data-start=\"4901\" data-end=\"4930\">they were not seeking God<\/strong>. Their hearts were full of pride and self-reliance. They honored God with their lips, but their hearts were far from Him (Matthew 15:8).<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"5069\" data-end=\"5179\">Repentance, then, is not about becoming a Pharisee. It is about becoming like the tax collector who cried out:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"5181\" data-end=\"5232\"><em data-start=\"5181\" data-end=\"5217\">\u201cGod, be merciful to me a sinner!\u201d<\/em> \u2014 <em data-start=\"5220\" data-end=\"5232\">Luke 18:13<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"5234\" data-end=\"5299\">Jesus said <em data-start=\"5245\" data-end=\"5251\">that<\/em> man, and not the Pharisee, went home justified.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5234\" data-end=\"5299\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<h4 data-start=\"5306\" data-end=\"5346\">Repentance Precedes Righteousness<\/h4>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"5348\" data-end=\"5659\">We must also understand that <strong data-start=\"5377\" data-end=\"5416\">righteous living follows repentance<\/strong>, not the other way around. When we return to God, He begins the work of transformation in us. As we walk with Him, He changes our desires, shapes our thinking, and helps us overcome sin. But we cannot expect fruit before we are rooted in Him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"5661\" data-end=\"5723\">This is why the message of the apostles was always consistent:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"5725\" data-end=\"6048\"><em data-start=\"5725\" data-end=\"5798\">\u201cRepent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out.\u201d<\/em> \u2014 <em data-start=\"5801\" data-end=\"5812\">Acts 3:19<\/em><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"5725\" data-end=\"6048\"><em data-start=\"5815\" data-end=\"5913\">\u201cTruly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent.\u201d<\/em> \u2014 <em data-start=\"5916\" data-end=\"5928\">Acts 17:30<\/em><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"5725\" data-end=\"6048\"><em data-start=\"5931\" data-end=\"6034\">\u201cRepent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.\u201d<\/em> \u2014 <em data-start=\"6037\" data-end=\"6048\">Acts 2:38<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"6050\" data-end=\"6143\">The call is always to repent first\u2014<strong data-start=\"6085\" data-end=\"6108\">to come back to God<\/strong>\u2014and then He will do the cleansing.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-52bf4a5 elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget elementor-widget-divider\" data-id=\"52bf4a5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"divider.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-divider\">\n\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-divider-separator\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a345f19 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a345f19\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3 data-start=\"6150\" data-end=\"6170\"><strong data-start=\"6153\" data-end=\"6170\">Final Thought:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"6172\" data-end=\"6210\">Let us make this truth clear and bold:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"6212\" data-end=\"6286\"><strong data-start=\"6212\" data-end=\"6286\">Repentance is not a call to be sinless. It is a call to return to God.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"6288\" data-end=\"6366\">It is not a call to behavior modification but a call to spiritual restoration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"6368\" data-end=\"6491\">It is not about achieving righteousness through effort, but about acknowledging the God who alone can declare us righteous.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"6493\" data-end=\"6737\">When we repent, we are not saying, \u201cI will live perfectly.\u201d We are saying, \u201cI will no longer ignore God. I will come back to Him. I will make Him my Lord.\u201d And from that decision\u2014<strong data-start=\"6672\" data-end=\"6691\">true repentance<\/strong>\u2014comes a transformed life, empowered by grace.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"6739\" data-end=\"6883\">Let no one confuse the message: God is not calling us to religion, but to relationship. And that begins with repentance\u2014a decision to come home.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"first-line-none\"><strong><span id=\"en-NKJV-27554\" class=\"text Acts-17-30\">&#8220;Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-27555\" class=\"text Acts-17-31\">because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.\u201d &#8211; Acts 17:30-31<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Take a moment to reflect on your life. Is God still far from you? Have you been ignoring Him, living as if He\u2019s not there, or simply walking through life without Him? If so, this is your time. Right now, make that decision to return to God. He is waiting, not with condemnation, but with open arms.
