While the beginner&#8217;s guide focused on establishing your personal walk with God through prayer, Bible reading, and walking with God daily, this next step answers a deeper call\u2014the call to <em data-start=\"1000\" data-end=\"1004\">be<\/em> a disciple of Jesus and to <em data-start=\"1032\" data-end=\"1038\">make<\/em> disciples of others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1061\" data-end=\"1366\">Jesus gave us this mandate before ascending to heaven, known as the Great Commission:<br data-start=\"1146\" data-end=\"1149\" \/><em data-start=\"1149\" data-end=\"1346\">\u201cGo therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you\u201d<\/em> (Matthew 28:19\u201320).<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1368\" data-end=\"1414\">But what does it really mean to be a disciple?<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1416\" data-end=\"1791\"><strong>A disciple is more than just a follower; a disciple is a committed learner and imitator of Jesus Christ. It means living as Jesus lived, loving as He loved, serving as He served, and teaching others to do the same.<\/strong> Being a disciple means surrendering your will to His, allowing the Holy Spirit to transform your heart, mind, and character, and walking in obedience every day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1793\" data-end=\"2239\">In this article, we will explore what it looks like to live as a true disciple of Jesus Christ. Love Your Neighbor as Yourself<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"158\" data-end=\"292\">Jesus made it unmistakably clear that love is at the heart of discipleship. When asked which commandment was the greatest, He replied:<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"294\" data-end=\"591\"><em data-start=\"294\" data-end=\"395\">\u201cYou shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.\u201d<\/em> This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: <em data-start=\"464\" data-end=\"509\">\u201cYou shall love your neighbor as yourself.\u201d<\/em> <em data-start=\"510\" data-end=\"571\">On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets<\/em> (Matthew 22:37\u201340).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"294\" data-end=\"591\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"593\" data-end=\"825\">Loving your neighbor as yourself is not merely a suggestion or a helpful virtue\u2014it is the second greatest commandment. It is a direct reflection of our love for God and a foundational mark of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"593\" data-end=\"825\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"827\" data-end=\"1404\">The Apostle Paul reinforces this in his letters. He writes, <em data-start=\"887\" data-end=\"1254\">\u201cFor the commandments, \u2018You shall not commit adultery,\u2019 \u2018You shall not murder,\u2019 \u2018You shall not steal,\u2019 \u2018You shall not bear false witness,\u2019 \u2018You shall not covet,\u2019 and if there is any other commandment, are <strong>all summed up in this saying, namely, \u2018You shall love your neighbor as yourself.<\/strong>\u2019 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law\u201d<\/em> (Romans 13:9\u201310). And again, <em data-start=\"1284\" data-end=\"1386\">\u201cFor all the law is <strong>fulfilled in one word<\/strong>, even in this: \u2018<strong>You shall love your neighbor as yourself\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/em> (Galatians 5:14).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"827\" data-end=\"1404\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1406\" data-end=\"1636\">Wherever you go and whatever you do\u2014whether inside the church walls or in the marketplace, your home, school, workplace, or community\u2014you are called to love others with the same care, grace, and concern that you have for yourself.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1406\" data-end=\"1636\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1638\" data-end=\"1944\">True discipleship does not end in the sanctuary. It is not confined within the four corners of a church building. Find a Bible-Based Church<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"166\" data-end=\"612\">Whether we like it or not, when we became followers of Jesus, the Holy Spirit placed us into something greater than ourselves\u2014a collective body of believers called the Church. The Bible says, <em data-start=\"358\" data-end=\"509\">\u201cFor by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body\u2014whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free\u2014and have all been made to drink into one Spirit\u201d<\/em> (1 Corinthians 12:13). This body is not just a metaphor\u2014it is the real, living Church of Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"166\" data-end=\"612\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"614\" data-end=\"806\">However, with so many different Christian churches out there, the question becomes: <em data-start=\"698\" data-end=\"728\">How do I find the right one?<\/em> Which congregation should I join, and how can I be sure they teach the truth?<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"614\" data-end=\"806\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"808\" data-end=\"1028\">When looking for a Bible-based church, there are <strong data-start=\"857\" data-end=\"874\">key doctrines<\/strong> you should check to ensure the church aligns with the teachings of Jesus and the apostles. Look for churches that affirm <strong>the following essential beliefs<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1030\" data-end=\"1551\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1030\" data-end=\"1091\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1032\" data-end=\"1091\">The Bible is the inspired and authoritative Word of God<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1092\" data-end=\"1155\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1094\" data-end=\"1155\">Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1156\" data-end=\"1228\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1158\" data-end=\"1228\">The Trinity: One God in three persons\u2014Father, Son, and Holy Spirit<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1229\" data-end=\"1349\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1231\" data-end=\"1349\">Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died for our sins, and rose again<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1350\" data-end=\"1389\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1352\" data-end=\"1389\">The Second Coming of Jesus Christ<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1390\" data-end=\"1455\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1392\" data-end=\"1455\">The resurrection of the dead and eternal life for the saved<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1456\" data-end=\"1551\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1458\" data-end=\"1551\">The Church as the body of Christ with a mission to proclaim the Gospel and make disciples<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1553\" data-end=\"2113\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1553\" data-end=\"2113\">Additionally, it\u2019s important to consider <strong data-start=\"1594\" data-end=\"1616\">cultural relevance<\/strong>. While the Gospel transcends culture, the local church you attend should ideally be one where you can connect with others on a cultural and relational level. If you find yourself in a church where cultural practices are unfamiliar or vastly different, it may be difficult to build genuine fellowship. You may even feel so disconnected that you hesitate to return. The early church in Acts was united in faith <em data-start=\"2026\" data-end=\"2031\">and<\/em> fellowship, and it\u2019s wise to find a congregation where both are possible for you.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1553\" data-end=\"2113\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2115\" data-end=\"2448\">Also, be aware of the <strong data-start=\"2137\" data-end=\"2175\">variety of Christian denominations<\/strong>. Each has its own theological emphases and traditions. While many agree on core doctrines, their views on church governance, sacraments, worship styles, and secondary doctrines may differ (We call these minor doctrines). Knowing what these differences are will help you choose wisely and avoid confusion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2450\" data-end=\"2472\">To find such a church:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2474\" data-end=\"3147\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2474\" data-end=\"2571\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2476\" data-end=\"2571\"><strong data-start=\"2476\" data-end=\"2497\">Pray for guidance<\/strong>: Ask God to lead you to a local church where you can grow and contribute.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2572\" data-end=\"2671\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2574\" data-end=\"2671\"><strong data-start=\"2574\" data-end=\"2601\">Research local churches<\/strong>: Look up their websites, listen to sermons, and read their materials.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2672\" data-end=\"2770\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2674\" data-end=\"2770\"><strong data-start=\"2674\" data-end=\"2693\">Attend services<\/strong>: Visit a few to experience their worship, teaching, and community firsthand.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2771\" data-end=\"2846\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2773\" data-end=\"2846\"><strong data-start=\"2773\" data-end=\"2789\">Seek counsel<\/strong>: Ask trusted Christians for recommendations or feedback.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2847\" data-end=\"2945\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2849\" data-end=\"2945\"><strong data-start=\"2849\" data-end=\"2883\">Check their statement of faith<\/strong>: This will reveal their core beliefs and doctrinal alignment.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2946\" data-end=\"3045\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2948\" data-end=\"3045\"><strong data-start=\"2948\" data-end=\"2975\">Know their denomination<\/strong>: Be informed about their theological background and church structure.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3046\" data-end=\"3147\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3048\" data-end=\"3147\"><strong data-start=\"3048\" data-end=\"3083\">Review their mission and vision<\/strong>: Ensure they are Gospel-centered and actively making disciples.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3149\" data-end=\"3424\">Choosing a local church is one of the most important decisions you\u2019ll make as a disciple of Jesus. It is not optional\u2014it is vital.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1084\" data-end=\"1479\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1084\" data-end=\"1479\">However, before we go out and share the message of salvation, we must first <strong data-start=\"1160\" data-end=\"1207\">understand the Gospel deeply and personally<\/strong>. Even the Apostle Paul, after encountering Jesus on the road to Damascus, did not immediately begin preaching. Instead, he spent three years being taught and prepared (see Galatians 1:15\u201318). In the same way, we must ensure that we truly grasp the message we are sharing.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1084\" data-end=\"1479\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1481\" data-end=\"1513\">To effectively share the Gospel:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1515\" data-end=\"2192\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1515\" data-end=\"1637\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1517\" data-end=\"1637\"><strong data-start=\"1517\" data-end=\"1562\">Understand the Gospel with all your heart<\/strong>: Know what the Gospel is, why it&#8217;s good news, and how it transforms lives.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1638\" data-end=\"1770\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1640\" data-end=\"1770\"><strong data-start=\"1640\" data-end=\"1662\">Live authentically<\/strong>: Let your life reflect the truth of the Gospel. If you are a follower of Jesus, you are called to help others follow Him too.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"547\" data-end=\"855\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"857\" data-end=\"881\"><strong>But where does it begin?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"883\" data-end=\"1255\">The first step to discipling others is to be a disciple yourself. You cannot teach what you do not know. You cannot lead others where you haven\u2019t gone. That means <strong data-start=\"1046\" data-end=\"1090\">learning what Jesus taught His disciples<\/strong>, and that begins with the Word of God.
