How Do I Respond to God?

QUESTION:

HOW DO I RESPOND TO GOD?

ANSWER:

You respond to God’s invitation by humbly acknowledging your sin, repenting, believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, receiving His forgiveness, and surrendering your life to Him while there is still time.

After realizing your current state before God—and upon hearing that the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross of Calvary for the forgiveness of sins, that He rose again from the dead in triumph over sin and death, that He is calling you to return to God, and that He is now knocking at the door of your heart—the most urgent question left is:

How will you respond to God?

This is not something to delay. It’s not just a religious idea to consider someday. God has already moved toward you. He has made the way. Now the response is in your hands.

“Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.”
—Hebrews 3:15

You can respond in many ways—by ignoring, dismissing, resisting, or pretending you’re fine without Him. But only one response leads to life.

1. Acknowledge Your Need to be Reconciled With God

The first step is to admit the truth: we have all sinned. We are not right with God on our own. No good deed can erase our sins. No religion can make us righteous. We need God’s mercy.

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” (1 John 1:8)

God is not asking you to pretend. He is asking you to be real—with Him and with yourself.

2. Repent and Return to God

To repent means to make a firm decision for a change in direction—to turn away from a life in rejection of God and return to God. It’s not just about guilt; it’s about surrender.

“Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent.”  (Acts 17:30)

God is not making a suggestion—He is giving a command. Because your eternal destiny depends on your response.

3. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ

The Lord Jesus incarnated as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. It is through His sacrifice that we can have forgiveness of sins and redemption. The Lord Jesus came, not to condemn you—but to save you. You must believe—not just intellectually, but with your whole heart—that He is who He says He is: the Son of God, your Savior, your King.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

Believing in Jesus means entrusting your life to Him. It means depending on His finished work on the cross—not your own efforts—for your salvation.

4. Receive God’s Forgiveness and New Life

The moment you come to Jesus in repentance and faith, God forgives you and makes you right in His sight. He doesn’t just pardon your sin—He gives you a brand-new identity in Christ.

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:1)

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

You don’t have to carry the burden of guilt any longer. Jesus already carried it to the cross. Receive the gift He offers.

5. Surrender Your Life to Jesus

God is not looking for a half-hearted commitment. He’s not asking for a part of your life. He wants all of you—because He gave all of Himself for you.

“And He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.” (2 Corinthians 5:15)

The right response to God is full surrender. Let Him lead your life. Let Him change your heart. Let Him be your Lord.

Jesus Is Calling—How Will You Respond?

The Lord Jesus has already done everything needed for you to be saved. He is knocking on the door of your heart, waiting for you to open it. He is calling you by name. The time to respond is now.

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” (Revelation 3:20)

“Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2)

Don’t wait. Don’t delay.
He is ready to receive you.

Will You Accept The Lord Jesus?

Below is a prayer guide that you can pray right now. This is a personal and intentional confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is a prayer that declares your belief in His death and resurrection and your desire to be reconciled with God. When you are ready, say this words with all of your heart and in faith:

“Father God, I come before You, admitting that I have sinned against You. I am sorry for the life I lived away from and in rejection of You. I need You, Lord. Today, I make this decision to return to You. I also believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for my sins and rose again because He is the Messiah. I now surrender my life to You, Lord Jesus. Come into my life, be my Lord and Savior, and change me through Your Spirit. I receive Your forgiveness and Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for saving me. Amen.”
