How Can I Get Saved?

QUESTION:

HOW CAN I GET SAVED?

ANSWER:

To be saved means making a decision to return to God, surrender your life to the Lord Jesus Christ, and receive forgiveness, justification, and eternal life through Him alone.

God Is Calling All People to Repent Before It’s Too Late

You’re asking, “How can I get saved?”—and that’s a great question. But let’s take a moment to reflect:

Do you really understand what it means to be saved?

Saved from what, exactly?

Salvation isn’t just a religious word. It’s a life-or-death matter. To be “saved” means to be rescued—from sin, from judgment, and from eternal separation from God. And yes, we need to urgently talk about it—because time is running out.

The Bible says: “Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained” (Acts 17:30–31).

God is calling every one of us to repent—to return to Him—because judgment is coming.

This was the same message preached by the Lord Jesus Christ at the very start of His earthly ministry:
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 4:17).

So if you’re asking how to be saved, you are already responding to something very important: the voice of God calling you to come back before it’s too late.

1. Saved From What?

When we talk about salvation, we need to ask: What are we being saved from?

The answer is simple yet serious: we are being saved from the second death—eternal separation from God in the lake of fire. This is the final judgment for every sinner whose sins have not been forgiven.

“Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.”Revelation 20:14–15

This is not a warning to be taken lightly. The second death is real, and it is final. But the good news is—you don’t have to go there. God made a way to save you.

2. Why Would I Be Punished for My Sins?

You might be wondering, Why should I be punished for my sins? That’s a fair question—and one that the Bible answers clearly.

“For the wages of sin is death…”Romans 6:23

The punishment for sin is death—not just physical death, but eternal separation from God. But sin is not simply about breaking rules or violating commandments. It is, at its core, the rejection of God Himself.

This rejection began in the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve were created to walk with God in perfect relationship. But when they disobeyed God’s command, they didn’t just break a rule—they turned away from their Creator. They chose their own way instead of trusting and obeying Him.

Since then, humanity has followed that same path of rebellion. The Bible paints a sobering picture:

“The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none who does good.”Psalm 14:1
“Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge, who eat up My people as they eat bread, and do not call on the Lord?”Psalm 14:4
“God looks down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there are any who understand, who seek God. Every one of them has turned aside…”Psalm 53:2–3

We sin because we have rejected God’s rule in our lives. That’s the root of the problem. It’s not just the actions—it’s the heart that says, “I don’t need God.”

This is why all people, left to themselves, fall short of God’s glory. The punishment is not just for the evil acts we commit—it’s for turning our backs on the very One who gave us life.

But thank God, there is a way to be forgiven, and to be restored to Him.

3. Our Salvation: Redemption

Going back to Romans 6:23:
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Yes, sin brings death—but God offers a gift: eternal life. And this gift isn’t earned. It’s not a reward for good behavior. It is a result of God’s love, mercy, and grace.

You see, God didn’t leave us without hope. He made a way for us to be saved—and that way is through the Lord Jesus Christ, who died on the cross of Calvary to pay the price for our sins.

Listen—our sins can be forgiven because of what Jesus did. What we could never do for ourselves, God did for us.

Jesus redeemed us—He bought us back—from the power and penalty of sin. Once and for all, He became the perfect sacrifice. He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

(See also: “What Does It Mean That Jesus Is the Lamb of God?”)

Because of Jesus, forgiveness of sins is now available to all humanity. It is offered freely to anyone who is willing to repent and believe.

This is the heart of salvation: redemption through Jesus Christ.

4. How Can I Be Saved?

Here is the thing: God has already done His part in the salvation of mankind. Through Jesus Christ, He made the forgiveness of sins available to all. The offer of salvation is open to everyone—but not everyone will be saved.

So the next question is: Has everyone already been forgiven? Will everyone automatically go to heaven?

The answer is NO.

Only those who respond, only those who receive Jesus, and only those who believe in Him will receive forgiveness of sins, the gift of righteousness, and eternal life.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”John 3:16
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.”John 1:12
“Even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe.”Romans 3:22

(See also: “What Does It Really Mean to Believe in Jesus?”)

Now this is how we can receive that forgiveness. This is man’s only part in God’s plan of redemption:

“Repent, and believe in the gospel.”Mark 1:15

This is how a person is saved—by responding to His call.

Repentance means more than just feeling sorry for your sins. It means making the decision to return to God. It’s turning away from your own way of living and coming back to the One who gave you life. You acknowledge your sin and stop running. You surrender. (See also: “What Is True Repentance?”)

But repentance is just the beginning. Jesus also said, “Believe in the gospel.” That means placing your full trust in Him—believing that His death and resurrection are enough to save you. It is not just agreeing with facts in your mind; it is entrusting your life into His hands.

Repentance and belief go together. You turn from sin, and you turn to Jesus. That is how salvation happens.

To be saved is to make a decision to return to God—not just in thought, but in action. It means surrendering your life to the Lord Jesus Christ and receiving Him as your Savior who died for your sins, and as your Lord whom you will now follow.

It is a wholehearted response to His call—a choice to stop living for yourself and to entrust your life completely into His hands.

And as a result, the Bible says:

“Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.”Romans 3:28
“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”Romans 5:1

When you place your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, you are declared righteous before God, your sins are forgiven, and you receive the gift of eternal life. Most importantly, you will be saved from the second death.

The Next Step: A Life-Changing Prayer

“We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain. For He says: ‘In an acceptable time I have heard you, and in the day of salvation I have helped you.’ Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”2 Corinthians 6:1–2

If God is speaking to your heart right now, don’t wait. Don’t harden your heart. Now is the time to respond to His invitation. You don’t know what tomorrow holds—but you have today.

So what should you do?

This is the moment to respond.

You can express your decision to return to God and surrender your life to Jesus Christ through a sincere prayer. This is not about reciting perfect words—it’s about your heart calling out to God.

If you mean this with all your heart, this prayer can be the beginning of a brand-new life—forgiven, made right with God, and saved.

Here is a prayer of acceptance you can follow:

God, I admit that I am a sinner. I have been living my life without You. But today, I want to return to You. I believe that Jesus died for my sins and rose again. I now accept Him into my heart as my Lord and Savior. Forgive me, cleanse me, and help me walk with You for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
